WASHINGTON, DC - The Sunlight Foundation today announced that John Brothers has joined the organization as its new Chief Technical Officer (CTO). Brothers will lead Sunlight's technology strategy and will play an instrumental role in the creation of Web applications and services to make information about Congress and the federal government more meaningfully accessible to the public.

"John's wealth of experience in the technology arena and strategic use of open source software will be of enormous value to Sunlight as we develop and deploy new Web-based tools, databases and information to enhance transparency in government," said Ellen Miller, executive director of the Sunlight Foundation. "We are very fortunate to have someone with his creative vision and technological expertise on our team."

As CTO, Brothers will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the Sunlight Labs, the Foundation's in-house development team, and will also lead Sunlight's long-term strategic and infrastructure IT planning.

Brothers has more than 13 years' experience in managing, developing and executing full life-cycle software development. Most recently, Brothers was the Chief Architect at Core Concept, Inc, a technology management consulting firm servicing the Pharmaceutical/Life Sciences industry. Previous to joining Core Concept, Inc., Brothers was the Senior Director of Research and Development at nuBridges, where he managed the entire software development organization for this eBusiness transaction management company. Brothers also founded and was the CTO of Incanta, a broadband-based streaming media software startup.

The Sunlight Foundation supports, develops and deploys new Internet technologies to make information about Congress and the federal government more accessible to the American people. Through its projects and grant-making, Sunlight serves as a catalyst to create greater political transparency and to foster more openness and accountability in government.
